Slap in the Face
Today doesn't feel as insane. I think I just needed to let the initial craziness out. I think we know the right people to make sure he gets the correct ratings, which makes me feel so much better. I looked through his paperwork yesterday afternoon. There were injuries that got left out. Things that other people have gotten rated. We reminded the person doing his medical board to add the paperwork for his other injuries MULTIPLE times and they still failed to do it. It's so ridiculous. On top of that... The VA gave him a hefty percentage for Traumatic Brain Injury. Which is good. The Military, however, claimed he could have had mental problems before and because they can't rule that out, they will not rate him. WHAT?! If you read this paperwork saying what he struggled with, you would be appalled. It is flat out appalling. He got a huge slap in the face from the military. I actually read this was going to start happening to people about a month or so ago. I was really praying it didn't happen to him. Of course, it did. It's ok, though. I'm confident I can get this fixed.

So are they basically admitting that they might be giving full military training and access to all sorts of hardware to people with mental problems? That is a ridiculous statement and a disgusting way to treat people who have laid their lives on the line!
Hope you get these people sorted out. My blood is boiling!
So instead of the military saying any mental issues might be the result of the military, they are saying that he could have already had them when entering the military?
Wouldn't they know about such things through tests before admittance? One would assume.
Good luck! My soon to be husband has been in the military for almost 6 years now and in the 2 years I've known him dealing with anything medical or anything we have just had to sit someone down and watch them actually do what they should be doing for it to get done. He was in an accident a little less than 2 years ago and had his hand was ripped of during the accident.
Hey girl! this is appalling, I'm sorry y'all have to go through it. If you want to talk about strategy and such, I used to help people get their disability ratings completed by the VA where I live... send me an email.
Good luck though - I know this is more effort than you had planned on. Hugs
That sucks, but sadly I've heard of it happening to others. It's not fair that you have to fight for what he deserves. Try checking out organizations like Disabled American Veterans or the VFW. Many of them offer assistance to those who are dealing with ratings and such. Here's a list that includes some "advocacy" organizations that might be able to help: http://soldiersangels.org/index.php?page=for-the-wounded
